Comerica Hit With Suit Over Internet Security Patent

Law360 (October 27, 2010, 12:59 PM EDT) -- The exclusive licensee of a U.S. Navy patent has accused financial services company Comerica Inc. of infringing the intellectual property, which covers an authentication method for securely transmitting computer communications.

Network Signatures Inc. filed suit Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claiming Comerica has breached the plaintiff's patent rights through the use of digital certificates and signatures with public keys.

The suit asserts U.S. Patent Number 5,511,122, issued in 1996 and titled “Intermediate network authentication.”
