Suit Over Online Payment Technology Settled

Law360, New York (March 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Orlando Utilities Commission has agreed to pay $390,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a Canadian e-business which claimed the agency infringed its patent related to an online payment system.

Emergis Technologies Inc.’s case against the Orlando Utilities Commission was one of 17 patent infringement lawsuits the company filed between May 2005 and March 2006.

The Orlando Commission voted on Tuesday to settle the case with a one-time payment in exchange for a permanent license, an Emergis spokesman said.
