Lawmakers Urge Panel To Preserve Hospital Funding

Law360, New York (March 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A proposal to cut funds from a federal program that compensates hospitals for providing medical treatment to illegal immigrants has drawn protests from lawmakers in California and border states.

On Thursday, the House Appropriations Committee reviewed the plan, which would redirect those funds to help states cover losses in a health insurance program for children.
