La. Ship Firm To Pay $2.1M For Dumping Oil

Law360, New York (November 5, 2010, 12:03 PM EDT) -- A Louisiana ship-operating company has been ordered to fork over $1.75 million in criminal penalties to settle government charges that crew members illegally dumped oily wastewater into the ocean.

Offshore Vessels LLC was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana to pay a criminal fine of $1.75 million and remit a payment of $350,000 as community service to the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday.
