Agencies Adjust Policy For Controlled Information

Law360, New York (November 8, 2010, 3:19 PM EST) -- Government watchdog groups are cheering a new executive order from President Barack Obama that aims to streamline and clarify the rules governing the labeling and disclosure of controlled unclassified information.

The executive order, released Thursday, gives federal agencies 180 days to review their controls and designation criteria for CUI, a type of government information that is unclassified but considered sensitive — pertaining, for instance, to privacy, security, proprietary business interests or law enforcement investigations — and requires special safeguarding and disclosure controls.
