Jury Says Gas Station Chain Should Cough Up $30M

Law360, New York (November 9, 2010, 7:12 PM EST) -- A state court jury in Texas has smacked Petroleum Wholesale LP with a $30 million verdict for allegedly defrauding gasoline customers by calibrating pumps at its SunMart convenience stores to dispense less than a full gallon of fuel for each gallon buyers paid for.

A jury in Harris County rendered the verdict on Monday following an eight-week trial, confirming the state's claim that Sunmart pumps at 86 Texas stations were illegally set to shortchange consumers, according to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's office.
