Md. Hospital To Pay $22M To Settle Kickback Claims

Law360, New York (November 9, 2010, 6:54 PM EST) -- St. Joseph Medical Center on Tuesday agreed to shell out $22 million to settle False Claims Act allegations that it paid kickbacks to MidAtlantic Cardiovascular Associates in exchange for referrals of lucrative cardiovascular procedures.

The settlement between St. Joseph and the U.S. Department of Justice resolves allegations pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland that the Towson, Md.-based hospital violated the Anti-Kickback Act, the Stark Law and the FCA through its dealings with Pikesville, Md.-based MidAtlantic Cardiovascular.
