MGA Can't Search Mattel E-Mail Archive In Bratz Fight

Law360, New York (November 15, 2010, 3:51 PM EST) -- A federal judge has refused to allow MGA Entertainment Inc. to collect documents from Mattel Inc.'s searchable e-mail archive database in the latest resolution of discovery disputes in a long-running intellectual property battle over Bratz dolls.

Judge David O. Carter of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California denied MGA's motion to compel e-mails stored in Mattel's Symantec Enterprise Vault, calling this discovery “duplicative, overly burdensome” and foreclosed by a May discovery order that restricted the scope of Mattel's obligations related to the...
