Nuclear Facility Settles DOE Worker Exposure Probe

Law360, New York (November 10, 2010, 1:42 PM EST) -- Lawrence Livermore National Security LLC will pay $200,000 and take steps to minimize its workers' exposure to the chemical beryllium in order to settle a probe launched by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Health, Safety and Security.

The DOE on Tuesday released its consent decree with LLNS, which manages California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

The consent decree requires LLNS to ensure that it meets the agency's requirements for assessing and controlling hazards of beryllium, which is used to make nuclear reactors.
