FDA To Ban Caffeine-Alcohol Combo: Schumer

Law360, New York (November 16, 2010, 3:53 PM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will effectively ban Four Loko, Joose and similar controversial drinks that mix caffeine and alcohol by ruling that caffeine is an unsafe additive to alcoholic drinks, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday.

The Federal Trade Commission also plans to tell the drinks' manufacturers that they may be illegally marketing unsafe alcoholic beverages, according to the senator.
