Senate Moves Food Safety Law Closer To Finish Line

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 12:19 PM EST) -- The U.S. Senate on Wednesday agreed to move forward with the final debate on legislation aimed at tightening regulatory controls on both domestic and foreign food supplies, hoping to finish up work this week on the first comprehensive overhaul of food safety law in more than 70 years.

Senators voted 74-25 to invoke cloture on S. 510, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Food Safety Modernization Act, sponsored by Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and a bipartisan group of 20 other lawmakers.
