EU OKs €1.2B Unilever-Sara Lee Deal With Divestment

Law360, New York (November 17, 2010, 12:19 PM EST) -- European antitrust regulators greenlighted Unilever PLC's planned €1.2 billion ($1.6 billion) purchase of Sara Lee Corp.'s personal body care and European laundry business on Wednesday after the companies agreed to shed some Sara Lee assets.

Unilever agreed to divest Sara Lee's Sanex deodorant brand and its related business in Europe after the European Commission's probe of the transaction raised concerns that the deal would hamper competition in several deodorant markets, the commission said.
