Feds Say Alaska Spill Violates BP's Probation

Law360, New York (November 19, 2010, 4:12 PM EST) -- A federal judge has ordered a hearing after a probation officer said a BP PLC subsidiary's pipeline rupture in 2009 represented criminal negligence and a violation of the oil giant's $20 million settlement agreement over a 2006 spill near Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

Judge Ralph R. Beistline ordered BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. to appear before Judge John D. Roberts of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska on Dec. 20 to respond to U.S. Probation Officer Mary Frances Barnes' allegations, according to an order entered...
