E.U. Takes Aim At Members For Unreported Emissions

Law360, New York (March 22, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a demonstration of its green policies, the European Commission has taken legal action against six E.U. member states for not providing information on their progress in limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

The Commission has the power to take legal action against a member state that is not “respecting its obligations.” It first issues a “Letter of Formal Notice” to the member state and requests the state to submit its observations by a specified date, usually two months away.
