Wrong BP Spill Rate Estimates Hurt Response: Panel

Law360, New York (November 22, 2010, 7:49 PM EST) -- Underestimates on the amount of oil escaping from the well at the heart of the Deepwater Horizon disaster hurt planning efforts to control the spill, according to a working paper released Monday by National Oil Spill Commission staff.

The commission posted two preliminary, staff-prepared reports on the work to plug the well following the April 20 rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as research and development issues surrounding response and cleanup technology for such incidents.
