DuPont Reaches $70M Deal With Zinc-Smelting Plaintiffs

Law360, New York (November 23, 2010, 8:34 PM EST) -- Chemical giant DuPont Co. has reached a proposed $70 million settlement with a class of West Virginia residents who accuse the company of contaminating the area around a former zinc-smelting plant, a deal that would end over six years of litigation.

Lawyers for both sides announced the settlement Tuesday, calling for $70 million in payments to the class and the establishment of a medical monitoring program for the roughly 8,500 residents in the vicinity of DuPont's former 112-acre plant in Spelter, W.Va.
