Avis-Dollar Thrifty Merger Faces Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (December 1, 2010, 1:27 PM EST) -- Franchisees of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. have filed an antitrust lawsuit challenging Avis Budget Group Inc.'s proposed $1.52 billion buyout of Dollar Thrifty, a deal that would combine two of the four major car rental companies in the U.S.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, claims Avis' proposed acquisition of Dollar Thrifty would substantially reduce competition in the car rental market, violating the Clayton Act.
