US Reverses Drilling Plans In East Gulf, Atlantic

Law360, New York (December 1, 2010, 3:53 PM EST) -- Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced Wednesday that the U.S. no longer plans to allow offshore oil and gas drilling along the Atlantic coast and the eastern Gulf of Mexico until at least 2017 in light of the BP PLC oil spill.

The move backtracks from President Obama's strategy announced in March to open up the eastern Gulf and parts of the Atlantic to explore whether the areas would be suitable for possible oil and gas drilling.
