Petters Victim Asks High Court To Rule On Restitution

Law360, New York (December 8, 2010, 1:31 PM EST) -- Hedge fund Ritchie Special Credit Investments Ltd. has taken its effort to win back money lost to convicted Ponzi schemer Thomas Petters to the U.S. Supreme Court, asking whether a sentencing court may deny restitution to the victims because it believes the victims might be able to recoup their losses in a different forum.

Ritchie's petition, filed in the high court Dec. 1 and made available Tuesday, addresses the issue of determining victims' losses according to the Mandatory Victims Restitution Act. It also asks whether judgments...
