WTO Panel Tosses China's Challenge To US Tire Duties

Law360 (December 13, 2010, 4:42 PM EST) -- The World Trade Organization has initially sided with the U.S. government in a landmark dispute with China over the right to impose an additional tariff on $1.8 billion worth of tire imports.

A WTO panel rejected China's challenge to the tariff on automotive and light truck tires, finding that the U.S. had complied with the 1994 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the negotiated agreement that allowed China to join the trade body, according to a 128-page report released Monday.
