Unions Sue New York Over Hospital Overhaul Plans

Law360, New York (March 28, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three prominent employee unions have launched lawsuits against the New York Health Department, hoping to thwart the state governor’s plan to make sweeping changes to the state’s hospital and nursing home system.

The so-called Berger Commission in December recommended a huge reshaping project, which includes cutting 7% of all hospital beds and 3% of nursing home beds, and restructuring almost 50 hospitals and closing nine.
