Calif. Adopts US' Largest Cap-And-Trade Program

Law360, New York (December 17, 2010, 7:35 PM EST) -- The California Air Resources Board has adopted a cap-and-trade regulation that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 15 percent by 2020, putting it far ahead of any other state in terms of the fight against climate change.

The board on Thursday voted 9-1 in favor of the regulation after hearing testimony from about 170 witnesses. Certain details still need to be worked out, but the program is set to take effect in 2012 as part of California's landmark global warming law, A.B. 32.
