US Names 24 Solar Energy Zones In Western States

Law360, New York (December 16, 2010, 6:02 PM EST) -- Aiming to fast-track solar energy development, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu unveiled a plan Thursday to designate more than 600,000 acres of public lands in the six western states as solar energy zones.

The 24 sites in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah have been deemed most suitable for utility-scale solar energy production based on their sun exposure and lack of environmental conflicts, officials said.
