Electric Cars With Chinese Parts To Get US Stamp

Law360, New York (December 16, 2010, 2:51 PM EST) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection has ruled that two lines of low-speed electric cars used by the federal government should receive a domestic country of origin designation, even though some of their parts came from China.

In a Federal Register notice published Wednesday, the agency said Fairplay Electric Cars LLC’s HOSS and EVE lines qualified as U.S.-made, despite being manufactured with chassis, plastic body parts, plastic trim and other materials imported from China.
