US Joins Qui Tam Suit Over Mayo Medicare Claims

Law360 (December 22, 2010, 5:38 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has intervened in a False Claims Act suit brought by a former Mayo Clinic neurologist accusing the Minnesota health care provider of billing Medicare, Medicaid and other federal agencies for lab work it never performed.

Pathologists at the clinic regularly submitted claims to Medicare and other agencies for elaborately prepared permanent tissue slides when they had only produced comparatively simple frozen slides, according to the intervenor complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
