EU Eyes SC Johnson-Sara Lee Deal In Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (December 22, 2010, 7:08 PM EST) -- European regulators on Wednesday launched an antitrust investigation into S.C. Johnson & Son Inc.’s €150 million ($190 million) acquisition of Sara Lee Corp.’s global insect control business.

The European Commission said its initial market survey revealed possible concerns about how the transaction would affect insecticide product supplies in Spain, the Czech Republic, France, Belgium, and Greece.

The parties’ activities may “significantly overlap” in those countries, the commission said. Only one of the original petitioners, Italy, will not be included in the investigation, according to the commission....
