PG&E, Others Need Gas Pipe Records Review: NTSB

Law360, New York (January 3, 2011, 8:22 PM EST) -- In its ongoing investigation of a PG&E Corp. gas pipeline explosion that killed eight people last September, the National Transportation Safety Board has called on the pipeline operator and others nationwide to address potential discrepancies in record-keeping for gas transmission lines.

The board issued seven safety recommendations Monday, all but one of which were classified as urgent, instructing pipeline operators and regulators to review records to ensure that gas transmission lines weren’t operating at pressures they weren’t built to withstand.
