La. To Shell Out $240M For Medicaid Overpayments

Law360, New York (January 5, 2011, 7:47 PM EST) -- The state of Louisiana will have to repay $239.5 million to the federal government for more than a decade's worth of Medicaid overpayments made to hospitals that cared for uninsured patients.

The state said Tuesday that it had learned of the decision by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Departmental Appeals Board to uphold a previous Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services finding on the amount Louisiana should have to pay back.
