EU Sends Thomas Cook Deal To UK

Law360, New York (January 7, 2011, 6:12 PM EST) -- European antitrust regulators sent their review of a proposed merger between travel agencies Thomas Cook Group PLC and Co-operative Group Ltd. to the U.K. on Friday, saying their initial probe showed the deal may threaten competition for travel package sales.

The European Commission referred the matter to the U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading after the British regulator sought to take over the case in early December because the deal would likely only affect U.K. consumers.
