H&R Block Sued Over Electronic Tax Patent

Law360, New York (January 7, 2011, 7:29 PM EST) -- Tax preparation giant H&R Block Inc. has been accused of infringing a patent that allows companies to electronically exchange tax information.

Illinois-based Revenue Realization LLC, the company assigned the patent, alleges in a lawsuit filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois that H&R Block, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., infringed at least three of the patent's claims.

The suit asserts U.S. Patent No. 7,257,553, issued in 2007 and titled "Method and system for aggregation and exchange of electronic tax information."...
