Wis. Moves Closer To Punitive Damages Limit

Law360, New York (January 14, 2011, 6:37 PM EST) -- The Wisconsin Senate's Judiciary Committee on Friday approved Republican-backed tort reform legislation that would impose a cap on punitive damages while maintaining current state law standards for triggering the award.

In a 3-2 vote, the committee backed several amendments made in response to critics' concerns that the original version of the bill proposed a more stringent standard for punitive damages that would have made it more difficult for most plaintiffs to obtain this relief.
