High Court Refuses To Hear Stanford's Bail Appeal

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 3:35 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court refused on Tuesday to hear an appeal by Texas financier Robert Allen Stanford, who sought to be released from prison pending his trial for allegedly masterminding an $8 billion Ponzi scheme.

Stanford, imprisoned since June 2009, had asked the high court to overturn a circuit court's ruling rejecting his claim that his continued detention violated his constitutionally protected rights to due process and effective counsel.
