Judge Keeps Opt-Out Period Closed In Shipping MDL

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 5:14 PM EST) -- A federal judge declined Tuesday to reopen the period for opting in or out of the settlement class in a suit accusing shipping companies of anti-competition conspiracy in the market for freight services between the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

In rejecting a motion for reconsideration filed by chemical company Ineos, Judge Daniel R. Dominguez of the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico said that the class notices provided sufficient information about the $52.3 million settlement in the case.
