Contractors Wrongly Perform Federal Duties: GAO

Law360, New York (January 20, 2011, 2:46 PM EST) -- The U.S. Army has identified some 2,400 full-time contractors who perform inherently governmental functions and 46,000 who are closely associated with such functions, indicating how overly reliant the government is on certain contractors, according to a new report.

The numbers were compiled as part of a required review of the U.S. Department of Defense's contracting activities, according to a report released Wednesday by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, titled "Defense Acquisitions: Further Action Needed to Better Implement Requirements for Conducting Inventory of Service Contract Activities."...
