Census Floats New Rules For Vehicle, Goods Exports

Law360, New York (January 20, 2011, 6:39 PM EST) -- In a bid to improve the accuracy of its export statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau has proposed mandatory reporting requirements for shipments of used self-propelled vehicles, household goods and temporary exports.

The Census Bureau, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, announced the proposed rule in a Federal Register notice Thursday.

Under the requirements, information about used self-propelled vehicles — including vessels, cars, aircraft, locomotives and rail cars — and household goods would have to be filed regardless of value or country of destination, with the...
