Law360, New York (January 25, 2011, 5:56 PM EST) -- A federal judge Tuesday sentenced former Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner to three years in prison for accepting a $1,000 bribe and lying to FBI agents, a punishment on par with the prosecution's recommended sentence.

Judge Douglas P. Woodlock of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts rejected pleas for leniency from defense attorneys, who asked for a sentence of probation in light of Turner's four decades as a political activist and elected official.
