EU OKs $7.7B Intel-McAfee Deal With Conditions

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 1:28 PM EST) -- Europe’s antitrust watchdog has approved Intel Corp.’s proposed $7.7 billion purchase of computer security company McAfee Inc., moving the deal another step closer to completion in the wake of the Federal Trade Commission’s recent approval.

The European Commission announced Wednesday it had approved the acquisition under the EU Merger Regulation.

"The commitments submitted by Intel strike the right balance, as they allow preserving both competition and the beneficial effects of the merger,” EC Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said.
