AstraZeneca To Pay $20.5M In Ky. Medicaid Fraud Suit

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 8:30 PM EST) -- A Kentucky judge has rejected AstraZeneca PLC's bid to overturn a jury verdict and penalties totaling $20.5 million in a case accusing it of defrauding Kentucky Medicaid by inflating its average wholesale drug prices, the state's attorney general said Wednesday.

Judge Phillip Shepherd of the Franklin Circuit Court rejected AstraZeneca's bid for a new trial and other post-judgment motions on Jan. 19, saying the drug giant had transferred wealth from taxpayers to its main customers' pockets, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway said.
