Becton Dickinson Faces Patent Suit Over Needles

Law360, New York (January 31, 2011, 4:09 PM EST) -- Apollo Intellectual Properties LLC has accused Becton Dickinson and Co. of infringing its patent by manufacturing and distributing syringes with retractable needles designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Apollo filed a lawsuit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging BD infringed U.S. Patent Number 7,465,294, issued in 2008 and titled "Retractable hypodermic needle," by selling 5 mm and 8 mm versions of the "Autoshield" pen needle, a retractable hypodermic needle surrounded by a tubular sheath.
