Jury Awards Doctor $6.3M

Law360, New York (April 10, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A jury has ordered a physicians group to pay a local doctor $6.3 million after it breached his contract and accused him of abusing alcohol and drugs because he questioned the group’s insurance billing practices, his lawyers said.

A jury in the 193rd Civil District Court in Dallas, Texas, awarded Dr. Neal Fischer the damages Monday.

Fischer was a shareholder in Dallas-based Pinnacle Anesthesia Consultants PA, which provides obstetric anesthesiology services to Presbyterian Hospital. He alleged the group retaliated after he complained it was advertising itself...
