Halliburton, Others May Have Fracked Illegally: Report

Law360, New York (January 31, 2011, 8:32 PM EST) -- Halliburton Co., BJ Services Co., and 10 other oil and gas companies injected more than 30 million gallons of hydraulic fracturing fluids containing diesel fuel into the ground without permits, potentially in violation of environmental law, lawmakers said Monday.

From 2005 to 2009, the companies pumped 32.2 million gallons of the fluids into oil and natural gas wells as part of the controversial gas extraction operation called fracking, even though they lacked permits to do so, the congressional investigation’s leaders told the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency....
