Telkom Can't Shake S. Africa Antitrust Case

Law360, New York (February 7, 2011, 3:26 PM EST) -- South Africa's largest fixed-line phone provider, Telkom SA Ltd., has lost its bid to dismiss regulators' claims that it took advantage of its near-monopoly market position to charge rival Internet service providers excessive prices for services.

Telkom had argued that South Africa's Competition Commission improperly used the same set of facts to target the company for both excessive pricing and running a margin squeeze, but in an order issued Friday and made public Monday, the Competition Tribunal rejected those claims.
