Fla. Judge Won't Rehear Alcatel-Lucent RICO Suit

Law360, New York (February 9, 2011, 7:26 PM EST) -- A Florida judge Wednesday refused to rehear a suit against Alcatel-Lucent SA that he dismissed when he ruled a Costa Rican utility could not use Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges against the telecom to bring racketeering claims that it used bribery to secure contracts.

Judge Pedro Echarte Jr. issued an order in the Circuit Court of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida denying the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad's request on the grounds that the government-owned utility could not raise new arguments in a rehearing motion....
