Cold War Nuclear Workers Sue DOL

Law360 (April 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Six former nuclear power plant workers who are “on death’s door” after suffering radiation-related illnesses have launched a class action suit against U.S. Department of Labor officials for allegedly delaying or restricting medical care essential to their survival.

The workers, who claim to suffer from beryllium- and radiation-related health conditions developed through their energy work during the Cold War, said the DOL’s payment tactics are part of an “orchestrated internal campaign” to delay medical payments by as much as seven months.
