Senate To Examine Agencies' Pricey PR Contracts

Law360, New York (February 10, 2011, 2:13 PM EST) -- Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has scheduled a March 1 hearing to investigate federal agencies’ use of pricey public relations contracts to manage fallout from environmental disasters and other problems.

The hearings, announced Wednesday, were triggered by a $234,000 contract the U.S. General Services Administration awarded to a PR firm after reports broke of contamination-related illnesses at the Bannister Federal Complex in Kansas City, Mo., McCaskill’s office said.

McCaskill chairs the U.S. Senate’s subcommittee on contracting oversight.
