SMIC Hints It Wants To Settle TSMC Patent Suit

Law360, New York (September 26, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chinese chip maker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) has hinted it wants to settle a patent infringement lawsuit with Taiwanese rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), according to Taiwanese news reports.

Patent infringement cases are intended to weaken companies' competitive edge and are 90% of the time settled outside the court, SMIC chairman Zheng Rujing said during his a recent technology forum, according to the local newspaper Apple Daily.
