Insurer Seeks To Escape 188% Crawfish Duties

Law360, New York (February 11, 2011, 5:30 PM EST) -- Washington International Insurance Co. tried to persuade the Federal Circuit on Friday that a 188 percent dumping margin on a crawfish meat importer for which it serves as a surety was far too high.

The importer of record in the case “defaulted and disappeared,” Washington attorney Tom Vakerics told a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Washington serves as surety for South Sky Import and Export Inc., an importer of the crawfish at issue from Xuzhou Jinjiang Foodstuffs Co. Ltd.,...
