Ecuadorean Court Hits Chevron With $8B Judgment

Law360, New York (February 14, 2011, 4:51 PM EST) -- An Ecuadorean court has slapped Chevron Corp. with a judgment of at least $8 billion in a high-profile lawsuit over pollution and contamination in the Amazon rain forest.

In a statement Monday, Chevron acknowledged an adverse judgment from the Provincial Court of Justice of Sucumbios in Lago Agrio, Ecuador, which has been overseeing the environmental action that sought $27 billion in damages over subsidiary Texaco Petroleum Co.'s operations in the region.
