Health Insurer Sued Under RICO

Law360 (April 12, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A lawsuit has accused one of New York state’s largest health insurance companies of violating federal racketeering laws by improperly denying coverage to patients.

The lawsuit was filed Monday by Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Defendants include Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York, HIP Insurance Company of New York, Central Brooklyn Medical Group PC, HealthCare Partners LLC, Cogent Healthcare Inc. and 20 John Does.
