Fla. Verdict Ends Philip Morris' Engle Win Streak

Law360, New York (February 16, 2011, 6:00 PM EST) -- After six consecutive victories in a linked group of Florida wrongful death suits, Philip Morris USA Inc. has been ordered by a Florida jury to pay $86,000 in damages stemming from the 1994 death of a lifelong smoker.

The decision from a six-member jury came Tuesday in the Broward County Circuit Court in Florida. The case was one of thousands initiated after a 2006 Florida Supreme Court decision that overturned a $145 billion verdict in a class action brought by Howard Engle.
